With a detox, you want to get rid of toxins and cleanse your body. 

Weight loss is just a positive side effect, but not your goal.

You are cutting out bad food and drinks during that period.

But weight loss on the other hand can be achieved by reducing the food/drinks (calories), and not necessarily cutting out all bad food. 

Remember:

Detox: The goal is to flush out toxins, and eat clean food and drinks.

Weight loss: The goal is to lose weight. Reduce calories or quantities.

Why is water so important in a detox?

also water in fruits, and
additionally water in veggies are still not enough during a cleanse.
You should drink lots during the day as well.

Water is ESSENTIAL for detox! And without water, there is no detox.
 
Because water will keep you hydrated and support weight loss!
 
And when you are losing weight, your body is getting rid of more toxins.
If you are very hydrated, you’ll help your body to push out toxins and waste more with more success.
Meaning, you lose even more weight.
 
Are you worried about water retention, and that your body holds too much water?

In reality, dehydration is one cause of your body holding water!
So, no worries about water weight.

Water.

How much water should you add?

(Green) veggies.

 
The ‘greens’, that are in this recipe, are not only natural detox foods but also super hydrating.
 
They can contain lots of water. Which again, speeds up the weight loss process.
Making it perfect for any weight loss recipes like smoothies or any other diffused drinks or dishes.
 
Cucumbers are 95% water.
Kiwi’s are 90% water.
Spinach is 91% water.
Cauliflowers are about 92% water. 
 
Pineapples are also not bad, with 86% of water.

Chia seeds.

Ice cubs at the bottom in a bowl, and on top chia seeds in a golden bowl

By adding chia seeds to your smoothie, it’s get nutrition and omega- 3 boost.

You could also add them as a topping or by blending them into the mix. 

Adding fat, especially omega 3 fatty acids into your smoothie is ideal. Why?

Because they are strong antioxidants.

Not only chia seeds are great for detox smoothies, but also other fatty ingredients can boost the detoxification process.

Nuts or seeds are also great sources of healthy fats.

Like whole nuts and seeds or nut butter like peanut butter, almond butter or cashew nut butter (US-amazon) can be also added to the smoothies or as toppings.

It is the SHIT!

Simply mix it with water (or milk) and it turns into peanut butter. It has wayyy fewer calories, and fat, and is much healthier.

Pineapples.

Frozen pineapples are cleaning hydrating and adding sweetness. 

 

Bananas.

Bananas sliced and prepared for a cucumber pineapple smoothie, and banana pieces layed to a smiley on the bottom

The riper bananas are (before you freeze them), the sweeter will be your smoothie. 

If you like it sweet, then go for it! Then those babies ripen! 

WARNING: It adds more carbs and sugars though!

Are bananas any good for detox? 

Yes, bananas can indeed support your weight loss and detox journey. It is not your typical fruit or vegetable you would think of though.

They are very filling, due to the fibre, and don’t contain that many calories whether.

There are even people you are doing a banana-cleanse.

Frozen cauliflowers.

Why add frozen cauliflowers into a cleanse smoothie?
 
If you want your smoothie creamy and thicker, cauliflower is a great choice.
 
It is low in calories and very settled in taste.
 
Perfect for any weight loss smoothie!
 
As most fruits do add a lot of sugars and carbs into smoothies, you can rather add reduce their ratio. 
 
Also, cauliflower is high in magnesium. 
 
Magnesium has been proven to support weight loss.

At least,

50% OF AMERICA IS LOW ON MAGNESIUM!

So, if you like to top up on magnesium, supplements are a good option as well. (I take them daily to fight migraines)

Ice.

Ice adds to the thickness and makes it refreshing.

But, on the other side, it slightly dilutes the smoothie.

Try it out.

You need mostly a high-speed blender, like a Vitamix. 

If you don’t have one, don’t worry. A cheaper portable blender (or travel blender) are okay for now as well. 

Just make sure to use frozen fruits.

Superfoods.

Are you familiar with superfoods? They are a great addition and can be super easily added into your diet through smoothies or smoothie bowls like in this recipe. 

I don’t think you can get enough vitamins, nutrition in most diets alone, so I think adding a teaspoon into the mix is a perfect way.

Maca powder.

Yes, maca powder is something I LOVE.  

It brings you in a good mood! (proven)

And fights depressions.

Because maca powder gives you the BOOST for the day. Plus, the taste is not that bad!

 It’s got a settled sweet nutty taste to it. A bit earthy. try it, if you like?!

Spirulina powder.

Spirulina is a blue-green algae. It is immensely powerful.

It comes in different colours. Which is amazing for smoothies and baking recipes. More fun.

The green coloured one is more common, and therefore more affordable. It’s ideal for green smoothies.

(I love the blue one though. Look how vibrant it is! I had to get both!)

Is there a difference between green and blue spirulina?

No, not really.

There is not much of a difference, besides they come from different algae.

Spirulina is also amazing from the sustainability factors.

The production of spirulina takes about 10 times less water, compared to harvesting veggies.

Really, so much better than, the crush and burn effect.

Afterall it is also detoxing as well, and therefore a MUST.

Can I use milk instead of water?

TIP:

Try coconut water, if you like. It is a great addition, not only for any detox or diet smoothies and drinks. 

Why? It is low in sugars and calories.

It is a popular re-hydration drink because it contains electrolytes.

But it is not more hydrating than plain normal water! 

So feel free to stick with water!

Super healthy green smoothies recipe, which is perfect for any diet, detox or weight loss. Of course also simply a delicious smoothie, to be enjoyed on a busy working that, to be made at home. It contains plenty of greens, that nutrition packed into one drink.

  • 1 Blender

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tsp lime juice or lemon juice
  • 4 Tbsp greek Yoghurt
  • 2 kiwi ideally, with shell. (nutrition boost)
  • ½ cucumber cucumber ideally organic shelled (nutrition boost)
  • cup fresh spinach or frozen (ideally pre-steamed)
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp spirulina or super green powder (optional)
  • ¼ cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup frozen banana
  • ¼ cup frozen cauliflower (optional)
  • 4-8 pieces ice (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Start by adding the ½ cup of water into the blender (helps with the detox)
  • Scoop the yoghurt into the water. You can replace it with milk if you prefer.
  • Drop some lime or lemon juice into the smoothie mix.
  • Now it's time to toss all the 'greens' (kiwi, cucumber, spinach) into the blender
  • Blend all smooth. Because you want to make sure, no bigger green chunky bits are floating around in the smoothie later. Spoon out the kiwi, if you like. But for more nutritious value, just toss the whole kiwi into the blender. You won't feel the gritty hairs on your lips.
  • After blending all the green veggies and fruits, sprinkle the chia seeds, for some fibre into the mix.
  • Finally, it's time for the frozen fruits: Pineapples, bananas, and cauliflower (optional).
  • Top it off with ice, to cool it all down. You can easily add 4-8 ice cubes in total. You can also reduce the water at the beginning and use more ice cubes. Enjoy!
