How I lost about 4 pounds with this detox berry smoothie…
Yes, I have lost quite a few pounds. Because I was feeling low on energy, and bloated just before a heat wave hit Britain. So I decided to change my diet a little more, to make myself feel better again.
Not necessarily to lose weight, but I was also hoping for it, as I was quite bloated and a little and had some extra kilos which were bothering me personally. That’s why I consumed a few detox smoothies, reduced the number of processed foods even further, avoided alcohol and that was it.
NOTE: It is not great to lose too many pounds or kilos within a short amount of time though. So ensure to drink lots of fluids, and eat enough fruits, veggies, and other meals to not get into an unhealthy diet or detox. Better speak to your doctor first before making any diet changes. This is just my own experience and is not advice I am giving.
The difficult part was the first few days:
And after the first 2-3 days, when I saw some results I felt better. And even my bloating started to reduce itself. Also smoothies like these help with healthy digestion, which is another benefit of consuming smoothies more regularly, and which speeds up your weight loss goal as a side effect of a cleanse.
And after about 7 days, while I consumed this detox berry smoothie together with some other around 200 to 400 Kcal-based cleansing smoothies, I managed to feel better, more energised, and lose weight as well. So when the heat wave came, I just managed to fit more comfortably into my jeans, without feeling super uncomfortable in my skin.
But otherwise, I recommend these smoothies as part of a healthy overall diet, not as a strict detox.

What is a good detox smoothie?
Let’s dive into details on what makes a good detox smoothie out, and why I believe this Detox Smoothie with Blueberry And Strawberry is a good example:
- A good detox smoothie should be mostly nutrition-dense.
- You should add different fruits or veggies, and don’t just stick to the same detox smoothie for the same week:
Because variety is key when it comes to a cleanse.
- You get the most of the nutritions, minerals and vitamins, it’s good to switch it up and consume different smoothies.
- It should still taste incredibly good! Just because you want to fight off toxins, doesn’t mean it has to taste gross!
- Then the fibre amount should be high.
The point of a good detox smoothie is, to fuel your body with plenty of nutrition, and to help to cleanse your body naturally from toxins.
Detoxes are a popular way to get rid of toxins from your body. They are supposed to help with various health benefits.
What foods and drinks should be avoided during a detox?
Your smoothie shouldn’t add any “weird” ingredients or sweeteners.
Sugars should be avoided during a detox because they fight against good gut bacteria and this leads to slowing down the detoxification.
What can I drink while detoxing?
As for liquid, it’s good to add water, and coconut water, as this helps also to flush out toxins. If you are doing a stricter cleanse over days, then ensure to drink lots of water.
You should ideally not add dairy (milk) to your smoothie, as they are acidic to your body.
And this can cause poor cell function and slow down the detoxification.
Because these are ingredients, that are anyway less likely to be added to a detox smoothie, it’s good to mention:
While caffeine leads to increase toxin levels in your body, wheat can cause bloating, indigestion d constipation.
As mentioned, your body doesn’t need a specific type of food to start a detox and won’t need much help. These are myths and often just there to market detox products.
Yepp…not even lemons, apple cider vinegar or green tea can do that.
Buuuut, there are types of food and ways, that can help your body’s natural detoxification process.
That’s exactly why we are here and love healthy, clean fruit recipes, such as this Detox Smoothie with Blueberry and Strawberry.
Fibre is one of the factors during this detoxification process, that can bind toxins onto it and flush them out with it, rather than absorb them.
That’s why berries for example can help as detoxifiers, as they are high in fibre.
But you shouldn’t eat just berries alone. Variety is always key during a detox!
Prebiotic foods also help to cleanse your body
While it is key to consume fibre-containing ingredients, you need to take a close look at your gut bacteria.
You should also consume prebiotic foods, that are good for your gut health (=for your cleanse).
This way plenty of good gut bacteria can grow and avoid the toxins that can get into your bloodstream and affect your liver or kidney.
Do smoothies cleanse you out?
The short answer if smoothies cleanse you out, is not really.
Not even this, Detox Smoothie with Blueberry and Strawberry!!
Healthy Detox Smoothies, like this Berry Detox recipe, are supposed to fill you up with plenty of nutrition-dense ingredients. But they do support your natural cleansing process.
Because there is only a little evidence that detox is actually a thing, or working as we always believe it is.
Your body is doing usually a great job in cleansing itself of toxins.
Unless it comes to heavy metals cleanses, which are more beneficial and needed.
But besides that, detox diets are kinda a myth, as they over promise you more than they do.
Because your body can cleanse it naturally already. But you can optimise your body’s natural detoxification system, as healthline.com suggests.
12 natural ways that optimise your body’s natural detoxification system:
- Reducing alcohol
- Getting enough sleep
- Staying hydrates
- Less processed foods
- Eating more antioxidant-containing foods (=such as smoothies)
- Consuming foods high in prebiotics (like dandelion greens, bananas, oats, apples, cocoa, flaxseed, seaweed)
- Reduce your salt intake
- Be active
- Add Chlorella to your meals/ or as a supplement
- Add Cilantro to your meals
- Switch to natural cleaning products and body care
- Consume sulfur-rich foods: broccoli, onions, garlic etc.
When to drink a detox smoothie?
Now, this is the thing.
Detox can be harmful if you jump on and off it for short periods. Because if it’s not supervised by a doctor or specialist, then it can do more harm than good to your body.
Why would I promote then this detox smoothie?
Well, because I am promoting a healthy overall diet, where you can include smoothies like this one into your diet, without that you have too drastic cut out all other foods in your routine.
Changing your habits, stopping smoking, trying to be more active, cutting out more processed foods and introducing more plant-based foods is a bigger step but can help you to a natural cleanse and o take a HUGE step toward a healthy and natural cleanser happier future.
You can see, that this is a healthier approach than doing a drastic cleanse.
And smoothies like this one, which are nutrition-dense, can be a very easy part of your healthy diet. Because it includes plenty of nutrients and vitamins and helps to cleanse your body naturally.
